START A LIBRARY PROJECT

 This is a project that aims to establish 10 school libraries in Marsabit County with the support of the Story Moja Literacy Programme. The project aims to increase literacy in schools and more so contributes towards enhancing of reading culture in primary schools since schools in Marsabit generally fail in languages. This was largely seen to be attributed to low reading culture, limited reading spaces in schools, and insufficient/outdated reading materials in schools that is if the materials exist.

The project targets primary schools in the four sub-counties, whereby the schools will receive support in various ways, namely: training of teachers for literacy improvement in schools, the establishment of book clubs in schools and competition in spelling and reading for schools, and further furnishing an old or establishing a new book store in the school, stocking of the stores and monitoring of the usage of the book by the schools.

The project is now at its nascent stages of development as the organization is mobilizing resources towards the collection of books, transportation of books, the establishment of rapport with the identified schools, and securing partnerships with individual sponsors and corporate
